The Anambra State Government has declared Tuesday, October 7, a school-free day to honour teachers across the state.
Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced this in a statement released on Monday in Awka.
“In view of the fact that the 2025 World Teachers’ Day fell on a Sunday, Mr Governor has approved Tuesday as a school-free day to celebrate and honour teachers in the state,” she said.
Chuma-Udeh added that the Solution Parents League would hold a mega endorsement march in appreciation of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s reforms in the education sector.
“The Association of Private School Owners will join the Solution Parents League for the endorsement march,” she said.
She directed that all teachers, parents, and school proprietors should gather at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka by 8 a.m. to participate in the celebration.
Meanwhile, teachers across Nigeria used the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebrations to renew calls for better welfare, improved working conditions, and full implementation of the 65-year retirement age policy.
At different events held nationwide, teachers’ unions and stakeholders lamented poor pay and lack of adequate facilities, saying these issues continue to affect the quality of education.
They urged both federal and state governments to keep their promises to the education sector and prioritise teachers’ welfare.
