Chief Ekene Enefe,The Founder of Anambra Destiny Movement (ADM), said there would be no room for unwilling candidates in the governorship election come 2021.
The political association (ADM), says, it would be impervious to the imposition of governorship candidates by individuals, groups or political parties in the next gubernatorial election in Anambra.
Enefe said, it should not be imposed on anyone to contest while urging Anambra indigenes across the three senatorial zones who have good agenda for the state to declare their aspirations.
“We don’t want unwilling candidates, we don’t want people who will be dragged into the race.
“We want people who are prepared, people who have programme, people who are convinced within themselves that they interested in leading Anambra.
“Anambra has infrastructure deficit, we need aspirants and candidates who have agenda for addressing these governance issues and not people who are cajoled into the race.
“We need individuals who can demonstrate that they know and appreciate the leadership challenges we have in the state.
“As we have seen recently, there are persons asking people to run, Anambra is wiser than that, we shall not allow such individuals or groups to dominate us this time, we want a leadership recruitment process that is people-based,” he said.
Enefe said, the ADM was satisfied with the number of persons that had indicated interest to contest for the number one political office in Anambra, adding that it would give a variety of options for the electorate to chose from.
He said the association was neither for zoning nor for any political party but would work for candidates based on their personal credential and agenda for Anambra.
The ADM leader decried high cost of electioneering in Nigeria, saying it had shut a number of good materials out of the race.
“The best candidates are not supposed to be the richest persons but unfortunately, the process is such that elections are expensive, primary elections are expensive and that leaves some of the aspirants that can do better out of the contest.
“However, we are happy with the number of aspirants that have indicated interest, it gives the Anambra electorate ample opportunity to assess these people and to help make informed choices, for us the more, the merrier.
“What is important is for the parties to conduct a primary that will reflect the wishes of the people and produce a candidates that are acceptable to their majority of their supporters,” he said.
