The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards took place on Saturday night, May 10, 2025, in Lagos, drawing some of the biggest names in film and television from across Africa.

One of the biggest winners of the night was Lateef Adedimeji’s historical film, Lisabi: The Uprising, which won three awards, while the drama series Seven Doors also impressed, winning three major categories including Best Lead Actor and Best Lead Actress.

Veteran actor Femi Adebayo took home the award for Best Lead Actor for his role as a troubled king in Seven Doors. He won in a tough category that included stars like Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Bucci Franklin (The Weekend), and Lateef Adedimeji (Lisabi: The Uprising).

Chioma Chukwuka won Best Lead Actress for playing Amaka, the king’s wife, in the same series. She beat strong contenders such as Bimbo Ademoye (Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre), Hilda Dokubo (The Uprising: Wives On Strike 3), and Gbubemi Ejeye (Farmer’s Bride).

Seven Doors also won Best Music/Score, with Tolu Obanro being praised for the soundtrack.

Another highlight of the night was the success of Lisabi: The Uprising, a historical epic by Lateef Adedimeji, which also earned three awards: Best Indigenous Movie (West Africa), Best Make-up, won by Hakeem Effects and Best Art Direction.

Although Adedimeji was nominated for Best Lead Actor, he lost to Adebayo. Still, Lisabi was recognised for its rich Yoruba culture, detailed visuals, and strong production.
