The Amotekun Corps, a security group in Western Nigeria, has arrested 27 suspects linked to various crimes, including kidnapping and theft.

The announcement was made by the state Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, during a press briefing yesterday in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

Adeleye reported that among those arrested were four individuals suspected of kidnapping. These suspects were taken into custody in different areas of the state. “The suspected kidnappers and other gang members still on the run have long been terrorizing villagers in Ikakumo-Akoko,” he stated.

In addition to the kidnappers, the Amotekun Corps apprehended a key member of a gang known for targeting commercial motorcycle riders. “We went as far as Kogi and Edo to track and arrest this suspect, who is here on parade,” Adeleye added. He mentioned that the suspect confessed to stealing many motorcycles over the past five years in places like Akure, Ogbese, and Uso.

“He has lost count of the number of motorcycles stolen. After robbing their owners, he dismantled the bikes and sold the parts outside the state,” Adeleye explained.

The Commander also revealed that five other suspects were arrested for stealing household items and food. Some of these individuals allegedly broke into a shop and stole mattresses, selling them for between N5,000 and N10,000.

Adeleye credited the recent success of the Amotekun Rangers, a newly established unit, for these positive results. He noted that their efforts have led to the capture of criminals in border forests in Edo and Kogi states.
