American singer Mariah Carey loses mother, sister on same day

American pop singer, Mariah Carey, has revealed that she lost Patricia, her mother, and Alison, her sister, on the same day over the weekend.

According to BBC the 55-year-old Grammy winner shared the details in a statement released on Monday.

She said “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” Carey.

“Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”

The Grammy-winning singer said she felt blessed to have spent time with her mother in the week before her death and asked for privacy.

Patricia, who was 87 year old was a Juilliard-trained opera singer and vocal coach. She was previously married to Alfred Roy Carey. They shared three kids — Alison, Mariah and Morgan.

The couple divorced when Mariah was 3 years old.

In ‘The Meaning of Mariah Carey’, the singer’s memoir, she revealed her relationship with her mum was “complicated”.

“Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities,” she wrote.

“It’s never been only black-and-white — it’s been a whole rainbow of emotions.

The Grammy-winning singer said she felt blessed to have spent time with her mother in the week before her death and asked for privacy.

“Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment. A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother’s.”

She also revealed she is estranged from Alison, 63, in the memoir.

Carey is one of the best-selling music artistses, with over 220 million records sold worldwide.

She gave no further details about either woman’s cause of death.
