After six weeks of vacation from academic activities, kids in Lagos State resume new school year today.
Despite the tough times in the country, every parent would strife to purchase all the items his or her child/ward needs for the new academic year.
Hence, many parents have been getting ready for the resumption with purchase of new backpacks, notebooks, shoes, uniform and other gear for the new school year.
However, a report by the News agency of Nigeria, informs that dealers in books, shoes, bags, uniforms and other children items are grumbling as the market seems unfavorable to them this session.
It was learnt that patronage was not impressive when compared to previous times when schools resumed for a new session.
The schools are also not left out in these challenges, because most parents are beginning to withdraw their kids from expensive schools to less expensive ones.
The publishers of books are lamenting about the high cost of materials and papers, prompting them to reduce the quantity published.
Findings reveal that some of the publishers have backed out of publications as they were unable to meet up with the high increase in publishing materials.
Also, most essential learning materials which the children use for studying are not in the market because the cost of importation is very high.
