Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has officially resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress, describing the party as one that now represents “failure, pain and anguish” and has lost empathy for ordinary Nigerians.
In a resignation letter dated July 1, 2025, addressed to the APC Chairman in Ward 8, Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Amaechi declared that his decision to leave the party was the result of thoughtful consultation and a desire to align with others seeking to salvage the nation.
“After a wide range of consultations, I am convinced that this is the appropriate moment to call it quits as the party has derailed from the lofty ideals that birthed its formation and so, can no longer inspire hopes in Nigeria for a greater future. I have therefore, taken a decision to join forces with well meaning compatriots to start a fresh journey for the liberation of Nigeria,” Amaechi stated.
He emphasized that his exit was motivated by a commitment to rebuilding Nigeria alongside other patriotic citizens who are disillusioned with the current state of governance under the APC.
Amaechi added, “My decision stems from my commitment to joining forces with other patriotic Nigerians to rescue our dear nation from the fangs of failure, pain and anguish which the All Progressives Congress now symbolizes.”
The former governor, who played a pivotal role in the formation of the APC and its rise to power in 2015, has since aligned with an emerging opposition coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
