Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he will do everything possible to stop President Bola Tinubu from returning to power in 2027.
Amaechi, who recently joined the African Democratic Congress, said he is tired of Tinubu’s leadership and wants Nigerians to support his new party to bring about change. He spoke on Wednesday after arriving at the Port Harcourt International Airport, where a crowd of supporters welcomed him.
While addressing them, he said the country is going through serious hardship, and the ADC will bring relief.
“This coming is just to reassure our supporters and Rivers people that there is a new party in town,” Amaechi said.
He urged Nigerians to register with the ADC and get ready to vote out Tinubu’s government.
“Every Rivers man who thinks good of the state and the country should move to register with the new party and ensure that we remove the current government and stop the hunger everybody is suffering from,” he said.
Amaechi also assured party members that the ADC would run an honest and fair primary election ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
“Anybody who emerges from the primaries, we insist on a free, fair and transparent primary, all of us will support whoever emerges,” he added.
Speaking directly to his supporters, Amaechi expressed frustration with the current hardship in the country.
“If you are not tired of Tinubu, I’m tired of President Tinubu. If you’re not hungry, I’m hungry,” he said.
He continued, “If the rich men are spending N4 million a month for electricity, only God knows how you are surviving. And the President says he doesn’t care. The President says he is not here to make you happy. But ADC is here to make you happy.”
Amaechi also said he would not work with anyone involved in rigging elections, especially in Rivers State.
“Rivers State is notorious for writing results. When they write result, they claim they have won. I will not work with you if you work with those result snatchers to announce result,” he said.
After his arrival, Amaechi was seen walking several kilometers from Water Lines to his Old GRA home, waving and greeting residents along the road.
