The Federal High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Monday adjourned the trial of the impeached Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Olakunle Oluomo, and two others, namely the Clerk of the House, Adeyemo Adedeji, and the Assembly accountant, Dayo Samuel.

The trio faces charges of alleged misappropriation of N2.5 billion in public funds in 2022, as filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

During the court proceedings, the EFCC’s Counsel was unable to make the sitting, leading to the adjournment of the case.

Justice Okeke presiding rescheduled the hearing for the 29th of February and March 1.

In a notice signed by 18 out of 26 lawmakers last Tuesday, Oluomo was impeached from his position.

The allegations against him included high-handedness, gross misconduct, arrogance, poor leadership style, lack of focus, and transparency, which led to internal conflicts among the members of the House.

In response to his impeachment, the erstwhile Speaker, Oluomo, deemed it illegal and expressed determination to seek justice through legal means.

He stated, “I will seek justice in the law court,” highlighting his resolve to contest the removal from office.

As the trial unfolds, the public eagerly awaits further developments in this high-profile case, which has significant implications for the political landscape in Ogun State.
