Graphic designer Allan Peters has apologised after A$AP Rocky cancelled a potential collaboration because Peters shared the rapper’s private Instagram message publicly.
According to KSS News, Peters addressed the controversy in a video posted on Instagram, where he admitted that publishing the private conversation was a mistake and expressed regret over how he handled the situation.
The disagreement began after A$AP Rocky contacted Peters privately to ask about his charges for revising a brand logo. The American rapper also praised the designer’s work and indicated that he would be honoured to collaborate with him.
Excited by the message, Peters took a screenshot and shared it on his Instagram page with the caption, “I have no words.”
However, Rocky was unhappy that the private business enquiry had been made public before both parties reached any agreement.
“This is just distasteful. Well, I guess we won’t be working. Best of luck, buddy,” the rapper wrote beneath the post.
Peters subsequently deleted the screenshot, but the exchange had already circulated widely across social media and sparked conversations about confidentiality and professionalism in the creative industry.
Allan Peters apologises over shared message
Speaking about the incident, Peters explained that he shared the message because he was excited and believed it was a harmless gesture.
“I thought it was a friendly thing to do. He didn’t take it as such and asked me to take down the post,” Peters said.
He added that he removed the post after Rocky complained and apologised directly to the rapper.
“I took it down. I apologised,” he said, acknowledging that he should have handled the private conversation differently.
Peters also openly accepted responsibility for the disagreement, saying, “I made a mistake.”
The designer explained that he remained an admirer of Rocky despite losing the opportunity to work with him.
“I’m a big fan of A$AP Rocky, and I hope it ends up working out,” he added.
Rocky cancels potential logo project
Rocky had not disclosed the particular brand or logo he wanted Peters to revise. However, his message suggested that the proposed project was still at an early discussion stage when the designer published their exchange.
The rapper’s decision to withdraw the offer generated mixed reactions online. While some people believed his response was harsh, others argued that Peters should have obtained permission before sharing a prospective client’s private message.
Critics also noted that unpublished branding plans could contain confidential business information, particularly when they involve a public figure or company preparing for a future campaign.
The incident has therefore fuelled a wider discussion about the boundaries between celebrating professional opportunities online and protecting private communication with clients.
In the same video, Peters also paid tribute to the late French electronic musician Kavinsky, describing his music as “iconic.”
