All three senators representing Kebbi State under the Peoples Democratic Party have officially joined the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Their letters of defection were read out on Tuesday during a Senate plenary session by the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, who presided over the meeting.

The senators who defected are Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South).

Their move comes just days after they met with President Bola Tinubu and announced their decision to leave the PDP.

The Senate has now confirmed their exit from the opposition party, with the number of APC senators in the 10th National Assembly rising to 68. This gives the APC a stronger majority in the Senate.

The new composition of the Senate is as follows: APC has 68 senators, PDP has 30, Labour Party has 5, NNPP has 1, SDP has 2, and APGA has 1.

The defection was witnessed by key figures including APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Governor of Kebbi State Nasir Idris, and Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs Yusuf Sununu.

Though the senators did not speak during the plenary, sources said their decision was influenced by political alignment with the current administration and the desire to better serve their constituents.

The move is seen as a major blow to the PDP in Kebbi State, which now has no senator in the upper chamber.
