The Nigerian Air Force MI-35P helicopter that crashed today in Port Harcourt at 7:45 am on Friday, December 1, reportedly sustained minor damage

The incident occurred shortly after the aircraft took off for an operation against oil thieves in Rivers State.

A statement issued by the NAF’s spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet reported that despite the damage, all five crew members on board survived the incident with very minor injuries and are currently being attended to at NAF Medical Centre Port Harcourt.

“Incidents of this nature are yet again a grim reminder of the dangers associated with military flying and the risks NAF pilots and technicians experience in their onerous tasks of defending our nation and deterring criminal elements from their nefarious activities,” he said.

The spokesperson further stated that the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, is on his way to Port Harcourt to assess the situation and ensure the well-being of the crew.
