Alcohol played no part in my car accident – Dare Melody
Gospel musician, Dare Melody has shared the experience of an accident he got involved in along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The singer who had the accident on Saturday, November 21, 2020, said that it wasn’t as a result of alcohol.
Dare Melody told Saturday Beats: “I was not the one driving and there was nothing like alcohol involved. We were at the Mowe (Ogun State) area of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway around 4:15am and there was traffic there as usual. My band bus was next to my car. The next thing that happened was a heavy hit to my car from behind by a 20-foot truck. Before I could regain my presence of mind, we had been crushed and trapped under a 40-foot truck in the front, which unknowingly dragged us along for some seconds. I had only seen what happened to me in the movies until that Saturday morning. When I regained a presence of mind, I had no idea where I was. I just heard people shouting and calling for help. Some people even felt we had died. I quickly checked to make sure the people with me in the vehicle were alright. My side door was then forcefully broken from outside and that was when we could exit the vehicle. The four of us in the car came out safely. The only serious injury at the accident scene was sustained by the motor boy from the truck at the back that unfortunately fell off the truck through the windscreen.”
Speaking further, Dare Melody said that he and his band were on their way from a Church program in Ibadan when the incident happened.
He said, “We had attended a programme on Friday afternoon at Celestial Church (Goshenland Cathedral), before going to the New Seraph All White Concert at Jogor Center (both in Ibadan) in the evening. We were on our way to Lagos, so as to get refreshed and prepare ourselves for a wedding at Baptist Academy, Obanikoro, on tht Saturday.”
On the thoughts that ran through his mind when the accident happened, the singer said, “The thought that came was, ‘God, would everything end here’? I then immediately proclaimed that I would not die but live. Though, I had some strange thoughts about 20 minutes before the accident, I told God that I did not want to die a painful death.”
