Akwa Ibom takes delivery of ‘game changer’ Airbus A220-300
Akwa Ibom State has made history in Nigeria’s aviation industry by taking delivery of the first of 10 brand new Airbus A220-300 series airplanes.
The former governor of Akwa Ibom State and founder of Ibom Air, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, was present at the handover ceremony in Montreal, Canada.
Ibom Air was founded in 2019 under the administration of Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
In 2021, he led a delegation from Ibom Air to the Dubai Air Show where he secured an agreement with Airbus for the procurement of 10 new A220-300 series airplanes.
The Airbus A220-300 is known for its fuel efficiency, cutting-edge technology, and passenger comfort. It has a range of up to seven hours (up to 3,450 nautical miles), making it suitable for short and medium-haul commercial operations.
The addition of the Airbus A220-300 to Ibom Air’s fleet positions the airline for expanded service across Africa.
Ibom Air’s CEO, Mr. Mfon Udom, expressed great enthusiasm about the arrival of the new aircraft, stating that it will enable the airline to offer world-class airline services to its customers.
“The introduction of the Airbus A220-300 to our fleet is a game-changing leap forward for Ibom Air. The decision to invest in a fleet of highly efficient brand-new aircraft to power our growth plans underscores our determination to offer no less than world-class airline services to our valued customers,” he said
