The Akwa Ibom State Government has cancelled all land allocations made since Governor Umo Eno assumed office on May 29, 2023.

In a notice issued on Monday, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom, SAN, said the move is to allow the government revalidate all allocations and switch to the new digital Akwa-GIS platform for proper land management.

“Notice is hereby given of the revocation of all land allocations in Akwa Ibom State made from the 29th day of May, 2023, till date, inclusive of all government-acquired land, for the purpose of revalidating allocations and interests and for migrating to the digital Akwa-GIS platform,” the notice read.

Udom added that all new land allocations and transactions would be suspended for one month while the Directorate of Lands would be shut during the transition period.

“Over this period of transition, all fresh allocations of government land and transactions on government land stand suspended for a period of one month, during which period the Directorate of Lands shall be shut,” he said.

He explained that the revalidation exercise will last for two months and will be handled by the GIS office at the Ministry of Lands and Town Planning. According to him, any land document or interest not revalidated within the given period will be considered invalid.
