Senate President Godswill Akpabio has officially sworn in Mrs. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the Senator representing Kogi Central, following a lengthy legal battle.

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, confirmed on Monday that Akpoti-Uduaghan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, was the legitimate winner of the Kogi Central senatorial election held on February 25 of this year.

The appeal filed by Senator Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress was dismissed for lacking merit.

Earlier in September, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal in Lokoja had invalidated Ohere’s victory, declaring Akpoti-Uduaghan the true winner of the February senatorial poll.

Despite this setback, Ohere pursued the case to the Appeal Court, where the court once again upheld Akpoti-Uduaghan’s victory.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at 11:41 a.m., with the Clerk to the Senate, Mr. Chinedu Akubueze, administering the oath of office and the oath of allegiance to the new Senator, as directed by the Senate President.
