Akon to host 2023 AFCON draw in Cote d’Ivoire
Global music icon Akon, known for his Senegalese heritage, is set to host the draw ceremony for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, on Thursday, October 12, 2023.
This exciting announcement was made by the Confederation of African Football.
The draw event, which promises to be a dazzling spectacle, will commence at 8 pm Nigerian time and will take place at the state-of-the-art Parc Des Expositions in Abidjan.
Akon, who is based in the United States, is not only a global music sensation but also a passionate football fan and a committed social activist.
He is widely recognized for his ‘Akon Lighting Africa’ project, which aims to harness solar electricity to meet the basic electricity needs of various African countries.
In its announcement, CAF stated, “Akon’s hosting of the Final Draw, alongside Yaya Touré, adds even more star power to what is set to be a glitzy, glamorous, eagerly anticipated occasion, as the 24 qualified nations discover their group stage opponents.”
This prestigious Final Draw ceremony will be broadcast in over 50 countries, with a global audience expected to tune in through CAF’s Official YouTube channel and its network of Global TV partners.
