The Ondo state government is planning to travel the road less travelled as it unveils plan to begin medical cultivation of cannabis.
SaharaReporters had reported that the state governor Rotimi Akeredolu and the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Col. Muhammad Abdallah (rtd) recently visited Thailand to learn how to grow Cannabis.
Confirming the report, Akeredolu via his Twitter handle quoted the tweet and said it is a thriving industry that will create thousands of jobs for youths and also spur economic diversification.
The governor noted that the nation would be losing billions in revenue if it fails to tap into the legal cannabis market.
He wrote,
“Our focus now is Medical Marijuana cultivation in controlled plantations under the full supervision of the
@ndlea_nigeria.“I strongly implore the FG to take this seriously as it is a thriving industry that will create 1000’s of Jobs for our youth & spur Economic Diversification.”
He added that Ondo State is a known hot bed of cannabis cultivation in Nigeria.
“We know how to grow it and it thrives well in the Sunshine State. With an estimated value of $145 Billion in 2025, we would be shortchanging ourselves if we failed to tap into the Legal Marijuana Market.”
