Former First Lady of Oyo State, Florence Ajimobi, has disassociated herself from a viral video in which she was purportedly heard describing the All Progressives Congress strategy for the 2027 governorship election in the state as a “war.”
Ajimobi, the widow of the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, was allegedly seen in the video claiming that the APC would deploy money and federal influence to defeat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State.
However, in a statement issued on Saturday, the former First Lady dismissed the video as false, describing it as an artificial intelligence-generated fabrication.
She explained that a forensic examination of the footage would reveal that it is “a synthetic fabrication created using generative AI.”
“The footage is a ‘deepfake,’ where artificial intelligence has been used to manipulate the lip movements and voice to deliver a script that Dr. Ajimobi never spoke,” she said.
Ajimobi further stated that the viral clip represents a clear case of “synthetic deception,” which experts have cautioned could be deployed to influence the 2027 political cycle.
“The use of AI to impersonate public figures and manufacture controversial statements is a dangerous precedent that undermines the integrity of democratic discourse,” she said, while urging the public, media organisations and security agencies to regard the video as a malicious hoax.
“In an era where digital manipulation is becoming increasingly sophisticated, it is vital to verify the source and authenticity of such inflammatory content before distribution,” she added.
While reaffirming her commitment to truth and the democratic process, Ajimobi also noted that she “reserve all legal rights to seek redress against the creators and intentional distributors of this fraudulent media.”
