The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Owo town after a violent cult clash claimed at least four lives on Monday.
In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the curfew, which runs from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am daily, will remain in effect until further notice.
“Due to the ongoing violent cult clashes and security disturbances in Owo which have led to loss of lives, the Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has ordered a dusk-to-dawn (from 7 pm to 6 am) curfew in the town, till further notice,” Adeniyan said.
The curfew mandates all residents to stay indoors during the specified hours, with exemptions granted only to essential services such as hospitals, emergency responders, and law enforcement personnel.
Aiyedatiwa has also directed security agencies in the state to enforce the curfew strictly, arrest those responsible for the violence, and restore peace to the community.
The violence reportedly began on Monday morning when two rival cult groups clashed in the town, leaving no fewer than four people dead. Eyewitnesses described the scenes as chaotic, with properties destroyed and tension gripping the area.
The government has assured residents that every effort will be made to ensure their safety and bring the perpetrators of the violence to justice.
