Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Thursday in Akure presented brand new Toyota SUVs to traditional rulers across the state, describing the move as part of his administration’s effort to improve the welfare of the traditional institution.
Speaking at the event, Aiyedatiwa said the gesture marked a milestone in his government’s commitment to strengthen traditional leadership and promote peace at the grassroots.
He commended the monarchs for their support in maintaining peace and stability in their communities.
“As custodians of our cultural heritage and values, traditional rulers play a vital role in connecting the government with the people. Our administration recognises your importance and remains committed to your welfare,” he said.
The governor also noted that within his first year in office, his administration completed the long-abandoned secretariat building for meetings and other activities of the state’s traditional council.
He added that his government has consistently ensured the payment of the statutory five per cent allocation from local government funds to the traditional institutions.
“Today, all Grade A Obas will receive a 2025 Toyota Fortuner Jeep, while all Grade B and C Obas will later get a 2025 Toyota Cross Jeep. These vehicles represent dignity, honour, and respect for our royal fathers,” Aiyedatiwa said.
He appealed to the traditional rulers to continue supporting the government’s policies, assuring them of his administration’s continued focus on their welfare.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, said the presentation was a demonstration of the government’s appreciation for the monarchs’ role in promoting unity and development across the state.
He urged the rulers to make good use of the vehicles and continue their efforts in maintaining peace within their domains.
The Olowo of Owo and Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, thanked the governor on behalf of the traditional rulers, describing the gesture as thoughtful and commendable.
He assured the governor that the royal fathers would continue to work with the government to ensure the progress of the state.
