An employee of the Nigeria Aviation Handling Company, Auwal Ahmed Dankode, found $10,000 inside an aircraft while performing his cleaning duties and immediately reported the discovery to the airline management.
Dankode, who is from Kode village in Bunkure, Kano State, came across the cash, equivalent to about N16 million, while cleaning an EgyptAir aircraft at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
The plane had landed around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday when Dankode made the unexpected discovery. Without hesitation, he reported the find to the airline company’s manager.
Shortly after, an Arab man rushed back to the aircraft, frantically searching for the missing money.
The manager asked him a series of questions to verify his claim, and it was confirmed that the money belonged to him, matching the seat where the envelope containing the cash was found.
The man was relieved and overjoyed upon getting his money back. In a heartfelt show of gratitude, he hugged Dankode several times, thanking him for his honesty.
Reflecting on the incident, Dankode said, “Many people at the airport lifted me up, praising me for the good deed. Honestly, I feel very elated and excited. I’m so happy that God used me to make someone else happy.”
“I was just doing my job when I found the money. I knew immediately what I had to do. Reporting it was the right thing to do,” he added.
