A suspected aircraft crash triggered panic in central Beijing on Friday afternoon after a small plane reportedly struck the city’s tallest building, the 109-storey CITIC Tower, widely known as China Zun.

Videos circulating on social media showed debris falling from the skyscraper, while other footage appeared to capture the aircraft’s tail section lying on the ground.

A nearby taxi was also seen with a shattered window, suggesting the impact may have scattered debris across the area.

Eyewitnesses said the building was evacuated shortly after the incident as emergency responders, including firefighters, police officers and ambulances, arrived at the scene to begin rescue and security operations.

As of the time of filing this report, Chinese authorities had not released an official statement on the incident.

The cause of the suspected crash remains unknown, while police contacted by reporters said they were not yet familiar with the situation.
