A Lagos-to-Port Harcourt Air Peace flight skidded off the runway after landing at Port Harcourt International Airport on the morning of Sunday, July 13, 2025.
The incident, which involved Flight P47190, occurred shortly after the aircraft touched down in the Rivers State capital.
The airline confirmed that all passengers aboard were safely evacuated, and there were no reported injuries.
In a statement released by Air Peace spokesperson Osifo-whiskey Efe, the company described the event as a “runway excursion” but emphasized that the plane landed safely.
“Air Peace confirms that its Flight P47190, operating from Lagos to Port Harcourt this morning, had a runway excursion after landing safely at the Port Harcourt International Airport,” the statement read.
Efe explained that the aircraft “veered slightly off the runway without any damage,” and added that all passengers disembarked “safely and calmly.” He noted that “no injuries were reported.”
Reiterating the airline’s focus on safety, Efe said, “We reassure the flying public of our unflinching commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety in all our operations.”
This marks the second such incident involving the airline in recent months. On May 11, 2025, another Air Peace flight was grounded at Asaba International Airport after colliding with a large antelope while taxiing on the runway. The collision killed the animal and disrupted scheduled flights.
Following the May incident, Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, addressed concerns on his official X account. He stated that while some runway incidents are beyond airline control, carriers remain obligated to meet their responsibilities to passengers.
Air Peace has reiterated its strict adherence to safety protocols and pledged full cooperation with aviation authorities as an investigation into the Port Harcourt incident is underway.
