One of the two pilots operating an Air India flight from Phuket to New Delhi failed a post-flight dope test following an incident involving turbulence, sources told India Today on Sunday.
The sources further said that both pilots had been taken off flying duties while an inquiry into the aircraft’s sudden loss of altitude is underway.
A source in the Ministry of Civil Aviation said the incident is currently under investigation by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the country’s aviation regulator.
The source added that the findings of the probe will determine whether the matter should be referred to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau for a separate investigation.
Air India, however, said it could not comment on the matter because the airline had not received the results of the post-flight dope screening.
