Aide who shot newspaper vendor handed to DSS – Gbajabiamila
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has said that he has handed the security aide that shot dead a newspaper vendor to the Department of State Security, DSS.
The newspaper vendor identified as Ifeanyichukwu Elechi was shot when the aide opened fire to disperse a group of men preventing the Speaker’s convoy from moving.
Elechi is said to have died as a result of a stray bullet which hit him during the incident.
In a statement issued, Gbajabiamila said, “I have handed over Abdullahi M. Hassan to the Department of State Services for investigation and appropriate administrative and judicial action. In the interim, he has been suspended from the convoy.
“I have expressed my personal condolence to his family and have arranged to meet with the parents of Mr Okereke, who are already on their way to Abuja.
“I have committed to them that I will support his wife and the immediate family he left behind.
“I ask all Nigerians to join me in praying for the repose of his soul.”
