The State High Court in Eket, Akwa Ibom, has handed down a two-year prison sentence to a medical doctor, Nwaopara Adolphus Uche, for the theft of hospital beds from Immanuel General Hospital, Eket, and Immanuel Psychiatric Hospital, Eket.
Dr. Uche, who is 39 years old, is reported to have converted the stolen beds for use in his private clinic.
He carried out this criminal activity while holding the position of Medical Superintendent at Immanuel Psychiatric Hospital.
Justice Nsemeke Daniel presided over the case and convicted Dr. Uche on a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.
Additionally, Kubiat Anthony Isidore, a 28-year-old welder from Ikot Idim in Odoro Ikot, Essien Udim LGA, was sentenced to one year in prison for his involvement in the conspiracy.
Furthermore, Felix Samuel Ekwere, a 35-year-old security personnel at Immanuel General Hospital, and a native of Ekpene Obo in Esit Eket, was sentenced to one year in prison.
Samuel Ekwere confessed to the police that Dr. Uche had instructed him to remove the stolen hospital beds from the hospital premises at night.
These individuals were prosecuted by the state through the Ministry of Justice under charge number HEK/13C/2023.
