The Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port in Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Ini Ememobong has officially resigned from his position, citing his inability to join the All Progressives Congress as directed by Governor Umo Eno.
In his resignation letter addressed to the Governor on Friday, Comr. Ememobong expressed sincere gratitude for the confidence placed in him to serve in two key ministries—Information and Special Duties & Ibom Deep Sea Port.
“I write to most sincerely appreciate the confidence and opportunity you offered me to serve in your cabinet in two critical Ministries—Information and Special Duties & Ibom Deep Sea Port. The experience garnered within this period has been very enlightening and I profoundly value the privileged opportunity to have served in your administration,” he stated.
However, he acknowledged the Governor’s directive that any appointee unwilling to move from the People’s Democratic Party to the APC must resign.
Comr. Ememobong made clear that, based on his personal conviction, he cannot follow this directive.
“You have directed that any appointee who is unwilling to accompany you to switch from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, should resign. Ipso facto, based on my personal conviction, I will be unable to join the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote.
Consequently, Comr. Ememobong respectfully tendered his resignation both as a commissioner and as a member of the State Executive Council.
He closed his letter with heartfelt thanks for the opportunity to serve the administration and the people of Akwa Ibom State.
“May I most heartily again thank you for the opportunity to serve your administration and our state. Thank you, Your Excellency.”
The resignation marks a significant political development in Akwa Ibom State as Governor Eno’s cabinet experiences shifts amid the ongoing party realignment.
