Hardship: Agric ministry partners NSA for Northwest grain distribution
The Federal Government has launched the distribution of 42,000 metric tonnes of grains in the seven focal points of state capitals in the Northwest region to alleviate hardship among citizens.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, announced the commencement of the distribution during a briefing with State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu.
Kyari, while refraining from providing detailed distribution information due to security concerns, highlighted the collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), and other security agencies to address the risks associated with food warehouse vandalism.
“We are distributing to state capitals in the first instance as you all are aware the risk involved in the vandalisation of foodstuff so we are working with the office of the National Security Adviser and other national security agencies,” Kyari stated.
He confirmed the commencement of distribution in the Northwest states from seven distribution points, emphasizing the priority given to security considerations in the process.
The distribution of grains across the country commenced on March 1, 2024, as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to mitigate the impact of hardship in Nigeria.
The initiative aims to provide relief to citizens grappling with economic challenges, demonstrating the government’s commitment to addressing food insecurity and improving livelihoods.
