Former Big Brother Naija star and businesswoman, Uriel Oputa, has spoken out strongly against Nigerian men who insult women for aging.

In a passionate Instagram video, Uriel said it is wrong to use a woman’s age as an insult and reminded everyone that getting older is a privilege, not a curse.

“This is going to be pinpointed to Nigerian men,” she began. “It is an insult to God to use age discrimination against a woman.” She said some people ignore the message in her posts and focus instead on saying she is getting old. “You are not smart enough to digest the message and use it to better your life. What you hold on to is, ‘you’re getting old,’” she said.

Uriel, who has always been open about living her truth, added that she would rather age gracefully than die young with regrets. “There is no shame in aging. Aging is a privilege,” she said. “Some people have all the money in the world and still wish they had one more day to breathe.”

She called on critics to stop mocking women for things they don’t understand and warned that life has a way of teaching lessons. “Don’t mock what you cannot understand. One day, life will remind you,” she said.

Her message received support from many fans online. Some users praised her courage and said aging should never be used to shame women. One fan wrote, “Once you are a woman in your thirties they make it look like it is over. I’m 33 and I’m so loving this life God has given me.”

Another user added, “We pray against dying young, yet turn around to mock women for aging. What exactly do they expect? For women to be stuck in their twenties forever?”
