Nyalong Ngong Deng, one of the most sought-after damsels in “Africa”, who gained prominence after six men keenly competed to ask her hands in marriage has finally settled for one business tycoon, Kok Alat.

The 17-year-old South Sudanese beauty married Kok Alat in a colourful wedding at Freedom Hall in Juba on Saturday, hence putting an end to the fierce competition, sde.co.ke reports.

Kok Alat paid 530 cows, three Land cruiser V8 cars and $10,000 to outshine five other men, including former commissioner of Awerial and the current Deputy Governor of Eastern Lakes State, David Mayom Riak.

The girl who is a virgin was auctioned on Facebook on October 25 by her family and interested suitors were encouraged to place their bids.

The competition which was restricted to people from Dinka and Jieng culture was condemned by various women groups.

In Dinka culture, any man willing to marry must convince the girl’s family he has the desired qualities which include the ability to take care of their daughter.

Thereafter the contestants are carefully ‘auditioned’ before letting them compete with a long search for the lucky son-in-law able to meet dowry terms.

Meanwhile, according to multiple media reports, her community organised a lavish send forth ceremony for the 17-year-old virgin.

The entertained her with dances, songs and ululations as they congratulated and bid her goodbye.

However, female lawyers in South Sudan have urged the government to shut down the online auction saying it’s gross violation of human rights.

Lawyer Suzy Natana praised the government for passing legislation protecting girls and women, but she said it should be regulated while also advising girls to have to insist on their freedom of choosing suitors.

“Dowry is not necessarily a bad thing because it leaves a simple token of appreciation that has invested in our culture, but it has to be regulated…if you are above the age of 18, you have a right to choose for yourself, to decide to get married or not. So, the first step is to make an effort to say no,” she said.
