Afghanistan: Taliban names founder’s son Yaqoob as Defense Minister

Mohammad Yaqoob, son of late Taliban founder, Mullah Omar has been announced as Afghanistan’s acting Minister of Defence.

This was disclosed by the group’s spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid.

Omar founded the Taliban in 1994.

He became the head of state after he captured the Afghan capital of Kabul in 1996.

Omar died in 2013.

The group, which now holds sway after the United States withdrew on August 31, is taking steps to gain the uniform endorsement of the international community.
