The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has called on South West governors and their counterparts in Kwara, Kogi, Edo, and Delta States to devise strategies to address the escalating wave of insecurity, emphasizing that ongoing terror incidents in states bordering the South West are fuelling fears of bandit incursions into Yorubaland.
In a statement released on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, Afenifere lamented that territorial expansionism and sabotage are driving the menace.
The organisation noted that repeated terrorist attacks in Kwara, Kogi, and Niger States, alongside recent kidnapping incidents in Ondo, Ekiti, and Oyo States, remain deeply concerning.
According to Afenifere, recent reports indicate that bandits have issued notices of attacks on certain communities in Kwara State.
“Thus, serial sacking of communities and villages which used to be in the North East and Middle Belt is now spreading.”
In view of the situation, Afenifere urged the governors of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, and Lagos, as well as those of Kwara, Kogi, Edo, and Delta States, to implement security measures that would allow residents to “sleep with their two eyes closed.”
Ajayi further recalled that the six South West governors, during a meeting in Ibadan on November 24, 2025, had resolved to strengthen security across the region.
“They planned to, among others, establish South West Security Fund (SWSF) and perhaps monitoring centres for the purpose of tracking would-be terrorists. Only in the outgoing week, Ogun state government inaugurated close circuit television centres (CCTV) for the same purpose.”
