Afenifere denies anti-Tinubu report, backs ongoing govt policies

A faction of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has disowned a report circulating in its name which criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The group, in a statement on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, said the report, which was presented as a “mid-term assessment” of the Federal Government, did not come from Afenifere and should be ignored by the public.

Speaking from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Ajayi said, “The said report was not issued by Afenifere and should be disregarded by members of the public.”

He admitted that many Nigerians are facing serious challenges, but noted that the group has always used proper channels to advise the government on ways to solve national problems.

“We understand that steps are being taken by the government to tackle these challenges with a view not only to bringing relief to suffering Nigerians but also to putting in place frameworks that will guarantee a sound future for the country and the people,” Ajayi said.

He explained that Afenifere would continue to give support and useful advice to the government to help improve the lives of Nigerians.

“We shall continue to offer our support and advice, through established channels, to ensure an all-round success for the benefit of the teeming masses of our people,” the statement added.

The group also expressed hope that as the Tinubu administration enters its third year, things like high transport and food prices would drop, and security would be improved—especially with the planned launch of state police.

Afenifere’s message came at a time when some individuals and groups have raised concerns about the state of the nation, especially in areas of economy and safety. However, the group made it clear that the document being circulated does not represent its official position.
