Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria after their 1-0 victory against Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday.
Kelechi Iheanacho’s strike 30 minutes into the match sank the seven-time African champions, firing Nigeria atop Group D as Guinea Bissau held Sudan to a 1-1 draw in the other group game.
Reacting to the victory, Osimhen urged his teammates to build on the momentum from the victory over The Pharaohs as they continue their quest for a fourth AFCON title.
“Congratulations guys, amazing performance. we continue to build on this momentum,” he tweeted.
Osimhen missed the final squad of interim manager, Augustine Eguavoen, after testing positive for COVID-19 about 10 days before the tournament began on Sunday.
Although he recovered from the virus two days before the tournament kicked off, Eguavoen stuck with his replacement.
WuzupNigeria reported that Osimhen suffered a facial injury late in November and was initially ruled out for three months before declaring himself fit for the event back in December.
Reports revealed that Napoli intended to stop him from featuring for Nigeria at the tournament before he contracted the virus.
The Super Eagles face Sudan for their second group game on Saturday before their final match against Guinea-Bissau next Wednesday.
