AFCON: Osimhen, others missing, CAF names best group stage players
Equatorial Guinea’s prowess shines through in the official CAF Group stage XI for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Jesus Owono takes charge in goal, while Emilio Nsue, leading scorer of AFCON 2023 with five goals, spearheads the attack.
Contrastingly, the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s national team, find no representation in the CAF-released lineup for the group stages of AFCON 2023.
Senegal and Morocco dominate the AFCON 2023 Group Stage XI, with players from these nations comprising the majority of the selected team.
With 16 teams progressing to the round of 16, commencing on Saturday, the group phase concludes Wednesday night.
Despite securing second place in Group A with seven points, the Super Eagles’ performances failed to impress. Equatorial Guinea outshines them as Africa’s top-ranked team based on goal differential.
Morocco, semifinalists in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, boasts four representatives in the XI, including Sofyan Amrabat, Azzedine Ounahi, Achraf Hakimi, and Nayef Aguerd.
Defending champions Senegal contribute three players, with Kalidou Koulibaly, Ismaila Sarr, and Lamine Camara.
The roster is complemented by Angolan attacker Gelson Dala and left-back Arthur Masuaku from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
