Published

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have secured a berth in the Africa Cup of Nations final in Ivory Coast.

Nigeria clinched a tense victory over South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in a penalty shootout during the semi-final clash at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake on Wednesday.

Ekong’s 65th-minute penalty kick gave Nigeria a 1-0 advantage against South Africa after Osimhen was fouled in the box, earning Nigeria a penalty in the 62nd minute.

However, Mokoena’s 87th-minute penalty for South Africa leveled the score at 1-1. Nigeria’s jubilation was short-lived as a VAR review disallowed their goal.

In a dramatic turn, Osimhen’s 83rd-minute goal was annulled by VAR, which instead awarded a penalty to South Africa.

Nigeria has now secured their spot in the final, while the outcome of the match between Ivory Coast and Congo will determine their opponent.
