AFCON: Getting to the final is not enough, says Troost-Ekong

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong emphasized that the Super Eagles are not merely content with securing a place in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Under the guidance of Jose Peseiro, Nigeria is set to contend against the hosts in Sunday’s final showdown.

Having triumphed over Bafana Bafana of South Africa, the Super Eagles are poised to vie for their fourth AFCON title, boasting a record of five victories and one draw in six matches during the tournament.

Troost-Ekong expressed the team’s determination to clinch the championship, highlighting the significance of winning the tournament.

“We’ve fought tirelessly to reach the final,” Troost-Ekong remarked to reporters. “However, our goal isn’t just to make it to the final; we aspire to emerge as champions.”

Acknowledging the challenge ahead, Troost-Ekong emphasized the special nature of the impending match, affirming the squad’s high spirits and intrinsic drive to compete in the AFCON final.
