Former Coach and Captain of the Super Eagles, Christian Chukwu, has urged the team to be determined to bring home the trophy in the forthcoming 2021 African Cup of Nations .

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the 2021 AFCON tournament kicks off on January 9 in Cameroon, with the Super Eagles drawn in Group D alongside Egypt, Guinea Bissau and Sudan.

“We have tested and good players as well as outstanding handlers of the national team presently,” Chukwu told NAN in Enugu on Wednesday, noting that the chances of the Super Eagles to win the trophy were bright.

According to him, the team should be determined, focused and make the best out of the competition.

He said: “They should display the resilience and die-hard spirit of Nigerians.

“They must not underrate any team, as no country is a push over in football again.

“I implore them to put in all the hard work, team spirit and make history for themselves by lifting the trophy and making Nigeria proud at the continental stage once more.

“The players should know that the lasting legacy they will leave for their children is to be champions that people will make historical reference to within the country in the near future.”

Chukwu said that millions of Nigerians were praying and wishing the Super Eagles a fruitful outing.

“We are expecting the trophy back home in Nigeria for the fourth time,” he said.

Recall that the Super Eagles have won the tournament three times — in Nigeria in 1980, Tunisia in 1994 and in South Africa in 2013.
