Nigerian Ultimate Fighting Championship star, Israel Adesanya has tendered an apology for a loose comment during a social media spat.

The Last Stylebender, days ago, had a spat with Kevin Holland where he was caught saying “Bro, I’ll f**king rape you.”

Adesanya was heavily criticised for taking the case of rape lightly in the since-deleted Instagram story which also drew criticism from the New Zealand government.

Grant Robertson, New Zealand’s deputy prime minister and minister of sport and recreation reacted to the comment.

He said, “I’m sure Israel understands that, I believe he has deleted the tweet in question,” Robertson told the Herald.

“It will be up to the UFC as to what they do. But I would certainly be making clear to him, and to anybody actually, that we have to take rape seriously. It’s not an issue that anyone should be making jokes or flippant comments about at all.”

In a statement in response on Twitter today, Adesanya admitted that he crossed the line.

“Last weekend fight talk escalated to a point in which I crossed the line,” Adesanya wrote.

“I understand the gravity of this word and how it can affect and hurt other people apart from my opponent, although that was NEVER my intention. I am still (learning) to growing under the spotlight, and I take this as a lesson to be more selective with words under pressure.”
