Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has won the 2026 governorship election. He secured a fresh four-year term after defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress.
According to Channels Television, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner early on Sunday. He contested on the platform of the Accord Party, following the conclusion of collation from all 30 local government areas.
The Returning Officer for the election, Joshua Ogunwole, announced that Adeleke polled 511,067 votes. Oyebamiji finished second with 444,815 votes.
African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam came third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke wins 19 LGAs
The final results showed that Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas. Meanwhile, Oyebamiji secured victory in 11.
Declaring the result at the INEC collation centre in Osogbo, Ogunwole said Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law. Therefore, he could be returned elected.
“For that, Adeleke Ademola Jackson of the Accord Party, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is hereby returned elected,” he said.
INEC recorded 1,005,800 votes cast during the election, while 985,079 were valid. A total of 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the poll.
The victory gives Adeleke a second term as governor. He first took office following his victory in the 2022 governorship election.
His latest triumph, however, came on the Accord Party platform. This happened after he left the Peoples Democratic Party, under which he secured his first term.
Celebrations followed the announcement in several parts of the state. This was particularly true in Osogbo and Adeleke’s hometown of Ede, where supporters took to the streets following confirmation of his victory.
