Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reduced the 24-hour curfew in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin communities to 17 hours, allowing residents some movement during the day.

The new curfew will now run from 2 PM to 7 AM daily starting Friday, March 28, 2025, until further notice.

Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, announced the decision in a statement on Friday, explaining that the adjustment was made to ease the hardship on residents while maintaining security.

The communal crisis began as a boundary dispute between Ifon and Ilobu on Friday, March 22, but quickly escalated, spreading to Erin Osun the following day. The violence led to casualties and the burning of houses, forcing many residents to flee to neighboring towns like Okinni, Osogbo, and Ido Osun for safety.

In response, the state government had initially imposed a 12-hour curfew, which was later extended to 24 hours to restore order.

Governor Adeleke commended the reduction in violence but warned against further attacks.

“While I appreciate the improvement in security, I am deeply concerned about reports of another killing. The police have already made an arrest, and I want to emphasize that anyone caught inciting violence will face the full consequences of the law,” the governor said.

To maintain peace, he directed security agencies to continue 24-hour surveillance in the affected areas. He also instructed the State Emergency Agency to increase support for displaced residents.

The government assured the people of its commitment to ensuring safety and stability in the affected communities.
