Former Arsenal and Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has expressed his disapproval of Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana’s perceived lack of respect for Cameroon.

Adebayor asserted that Onana’s late arrival and subsequent absence from Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations 1-1 draw with Guinea contributed to a sense of alienation among his international teammates and African supporters.

The criticism towards Onana intensified after the goalkeeper, who previously played for Inter Milan, watched the AFCON match from the sidelines due to his delayed arrival to the national team’s camp.

Former Cameroon star Sebastien Bassong joined the chorus of disapproval, accusing Onana of disrespecting his own country.

In response to the situation, Adebayor shared his perspective in an interview, stating, “He [Andre Onana] did not respect Cameroon. I was a player like him, and even as the most important player in my selection, I never acted in this way [arriving on the day of the match]. The fact that this situation is happening shows that there is a problem, perhaps even within the federation. He risks losing big because he has alienated the Cameroonian supporters, as well as many African supporters and undoubtedly certain members of the team.”
