The African Democratic Congress has suspended its National Vice Chairman (South-South), Dr. Usani Usani, with immediate effect, citing alleged violations of the party’s constitution and actions deemed harmful to its unity and progress.
The decision was reached during a recent meeting of the Cross River State Working Committee of the party held in Calabar. According to the SWC, Usani’s conduct was reviewed alongside several petitions and reports accusing him of anti-party activities, insubordination, and other behavior considered damaging to the party’s image and cohesion, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“In accordance with the party’s constitution and disciplinary procedures, Dr. Usani’s suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of a formal investigation by the relevant party organs,” the committee stated.
The SWC also raised objections to the appointment of Ms. Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, criticizing the process for lacking consultation with the Cross River State leadership. It noted that Wayas has failed to engage with the state chapter since her appointment, alleging that her actions and allegiance do not align with the party’s interest in the region.
“Consequently, the SWC urged the National Leadership to review her appointment and replace her with a competent, credible, and media-savvy individual from Cross River State with a verifiable record of commitment to the ideals of the ADC,” the committee added.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by the party’s Cross River Publicity Secretary, Hon. James Otudor, the chapter also expressed concern over members of the Coalition Movement who publicly declared interest in joining the ADC but have yet to formally complete their membership registration.
“While acknowledging that party registration is a continuous process, the committee warned that the ADC will not tolerate dual membership or allow its platform to be used by individuals pursuing multiple partisan interests,” the statement read.
The SWC noted that some of these coalition members, despite participating in ADC strategic meetings, have since accepted leadership positions in their former political parties.
As a corrective measure, the committee directed all coalition leaders and prospective members to complete their ward-level registration within seven days — with a deadline of Saturday, October 25, 2025 — or face exclusion from leadership and decision-making roles in the party.
Reaffirming its loyalty to the ADC National Leadership, the Cross River chapter pledged continued commitment to offering credible leadership and a people-focused political alternative for the state and the South-South region.
“We urge all members to remain calm, law-abiding, and steadfast as the party’s internal mechanisms for discipline, justice, and accountability take their full course,” the statement concluded.
