The Interim National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Bolaji Abdullahi, has strongly denied allegations that the party is being used to promote northern interests in Nigeria.
Speaking during Sunday’s edition of Politics Today on Channels Television, Abdullahi addressed the accusations made by the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, who had alleged that the coalition operating under the ADC was advancing a northern political agenda and plotting to return power to the region.
Reacting to the claims, Abdullahi dismissed them as baseless and took a swipe at Kachikwu, stating that he “should be ashamed of himself” for making such statements.
Abdullahi pointed to the composition of the party’s leadership and coalition members, noting that several prominent figures are from the southern part of the country. According to him, this diversity is a clear indication of the ADC’s national outlook and balance.
He further suggested that attempts were being made by external forces to sow discord within the party, adding that the ADC is aware of these efforts and is taking steps to neutralize them.
“ADC is a party, and we said this from day one, it’s neither a party of the North nor of the South,” Abdullahi said.
“It’s neither a party of Muslims nor of Christians. It’s neither a party for old people, so it’s a party that is deliberately designed to develop and build the kind of future that Nigeria desires,” he added.
