The African Democratic Congress in Cross River State has warned its members to stay away from a meeting reportedly convened by its suspended National Vice Chairman for the South-South, Usani Usani.

The gathering was said to be scheduled for Sunday at the Calabar home of former governor Senator Liyel Imoke.

In a statement dated November 30, 2025, the party’s Publicity Secretary, James Otudor, said any meeting held in a private residence under the party’s name is illegal and not recognised.

He explained that Usani, a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, had been directed along with others to resign properly from their former political parties before taking part in ADC activities, but they allegedly failed to do so.

Otudor said anyone who wishes to join the ADC must follow the official registration process and that no shortcuts will be accepted.

He described Usani’s move as anti-party, warning against what he called attempts to undermine the ADC through backdoor maneuvers. According to him, only duly registered executives can discuss matters like delegate lists, as required by the party’s constitution.

The statement said, “Party leaders and members are advised to ignore these invalid meetings.” It added that the party does not hold official business in private homes and that any meeting not approved by the state chairman must be stopped at once.

The leadership also suggested that the gathering at Imoke’s residence might be tied to a possible reception for an award recently given to the former governor by Governor Bassey Otu of the APC.

Otudor stressed that the ADC remains committed to protecting its unity and internal order.

Senator Imoke declined to comment when contacted. Usani, in an earlier interview, insisted, “I am speaking as the National Vice Chairman of our party in the South-South. Such suspension does not exist.”
