Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has revealed that his mother was hospitalised before Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, adding that he dedicated his goal to her.

Adams scored his first-ever AFCON goal in the 70th minute to cap a dominant display by Nigeria on Monday.

The 25-year-old also assisted Ademola Lookman for the opening goal and played a role in Nigeria’s second goal, which was finished by Victor Osimhen.

Speaking to journalists in the mixed zone after the match, Adams said his mother was meant to be in the stadium but could not attend due to her health condition.

“Glory to God for scoring my first AFCON goal, like many of you have been waiting for. But the goal is dedicated to my mum,” Adams said.

“She’s supposed to be here, but she’s in the hospital right now. She was admitted this morning, but she’s much better now.”

The goal takes Adams’ tally for Nigeria to three goals and three assists in eight appearances for the national team.

He made his Super Eagles debut in October 2025 during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where he scored in Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Lesotho.
