Adamawa PDP dismisses defections as personal ambitions

The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has downplayed recent defections from the party, insisting that those leaving are doing so purely out of personal interest.

Speaking in Yola during a visit to the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Dogo Victor, said the motivations behind the defections have little to do with the party itself.

“There is nothing about the PDP that could be considered serious enough to cause defection,” Dogo told journalists.

He maintained that individuals abandoning the party are acting on personal ambitions rather than genuine political or ideological grievances.

“Whatever excuse defectors may cite could safely be disregarded, as such defectors, upon close observation, are leaving the party in pursuit of purely personal interests,” he added.

Referring to the exit of former deputy governor Chief Crowther Seth in June and that of the 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Dogo argued that both left for personal political reasons. “Atiku left the party, but his son, Adamu Atiku, remains in the PDP and is a very prominent member of the government as Commissioner of Works,” he noted, emphasizing that the former vice president’s departure was not indicative of any internal crisis.

Dogo, who assumed office earlier this month following a consensus-driven state congress, also addressed concerns over disputes arising from the congress. He described the disagreements as normal reactions from aspirants who were not favored by the outcome. He said the party had already established a reconciliation committee to address any grievances and promote unity moving forward.
