The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 71-year-old man, Jeriel Peter, for allegedly killing his wife, 67-year-old Miltha Jeriel, after a fight in Demsa Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said in a statement on Friday that the incident happened on November 4 after an argument between the couple at a beer parlour turned violent.
Nguroje said the suspect attacked his wife with a knife and an axe, inflicting several injuries on her body.
“During the altercation, the suspect reportedly attacked and stabbed the victim multiple times all over her body with a knife and axe,” the statement read.
He said police officers from the Demsa Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.
Nguroje added that her body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, condemned the act and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case for proper investigation and prosecution.
Morris also warned residents against domestic violence, urging couples to resolve disagreements peacefully.
He assured the public that justice would be served and that the command remained committed to ensuring offenders face the law.
