The Adamawa State Government has dismissed claims on social media that food given to flood victims in Yola South was expired.
Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Celine Laori, told PUNCH Online on Sunday that the report was false, malicious and politically driven. She accused opposition figures of trying to tarnish the image of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s administration.
“This is a government that has a special financial package for the victims of the flood in Yola South local government to alleviate their suffering, yet some people think their campaign of calumny can succeed,” Laori said. “The people of Adamawa State are wise beyond this type of cheap blackmail.”
She said it was unthinkable for her, as a medical doctor, to approve expired food for public distribution. According to her, no administration in the state since 1999 has achieved half of what Fintiri has done in his five years in office.
Last Saturday, Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta shared food to 4,000 households affected by last month’s flood in Yola South. She said the move was to help victims recover quickly and return to normal life and farming.
Farauta assured residents that the government would continue its humanitarian support and called for public cooperation to achieve more.
